Sona is happy about the response to her debut album, that has been eliciting. She prides herself in being a live performer, who is not saddled by images or labels. She wants to make her own music with her own band, rather than following trends. Her album was made possible by a meeting with composer Ram Sampath nearly five years ago. The duo planned to do an album with quality music that is satisfying to the artist's soul, rather than worrying about how to make the album sell. However, they began actual work on the album only two years ago. The rest of the team for the album are Munna Dhiman for the lyrics and Anand Surapur as the music video's director, They were chosen, based on the caliber of their work.

Sona was also influenced by Hindi film music and many genres. Imran Khan, the chocolate boy hero of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na seems to have made his mind to do all the labors in his initial years. A macho role in Kidnap has anyway stamped him into the big league and he is set to again define muscle power in his new venture Luck.

What makes this movie special is the entrance of another starlet into Bollywood. Wonder man Kamal Hassan might just chip his nails for the first time in three decades as he sees his daughter start on the same route he made his own. Shruti Hassan, true to his father’s mannerisms, is making quite an unconventional debut which will see her doing karate and martial arts rounds with veterans like Sanjay Dutt and Danny Denzongpa.

The shooting schedule (it started this year in July) is such that the action shots are like punctuation marks, entailing Imran Khan to keep up with the gym sessions literally throughout. He cannot, after all, afford to be loose in his looks, for being the nephew of the perfectionist Aamir, it won’t suit if he looks unconvincing against Sanjay and the ever fit Danny even at this age.

Kiran was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital recently for fever, where she discovered that she is 3 months pregnant.

A source from the hospital says, “She was admitted to the fourth floor of the old hospital building. She was in the hospital for a week.”

“During the hospitalisation, Aamir would visit her everyday. He used to come in late at night, after 9pm. It was obvious that he did not want any attention. During the week-long hospitalisation, the cause for fever could not be diagnosed, but it was treated. At the time of discharge, the pregnancy was normal and there was no reason to worry.”

Sonam, who was seen in "Saawariya" and "Delhi-6", has featured in The Hollywood Reporter's inaugural "Next Generation: Asia Class of 2009" magazine, which is a special issue devoted to Asia.

Mumbai, June 9 (IANS) Bollywood hunk John Abraham is playing himself in "Fillum City" and says it is tougher than doing other roles.

"I'm playing John Abraham. And believe you me, it's not easy. I keep looking for myself in the character and find there are so many things that I want to keep for myself. I'm trying to act and dress as I do in real life. It's tough because you're constantly trying to 'act' like yourself," John told IANS.

The film is being made by debutant director Deven Khote.

John is also not happy with reports about him signing an international project. He wishes people wouldn't put out misinformation about him.

"I believe websites have put out stories that I'm doing an international film called 'American Empire'. I haven't even read the script. So where's the question of my doing it? Doing international films isn't a burning ambition for me," he said.

Though an enthusiastic voter, John couldn't be part of Karan Johar's short-film featuring most of Bollywood's youth icons to promote voting awareness. But he is hoping to team up with the Karan and director Tarun Mansukhani in the second instalment of "Dostana".

"Would you believe I was part of that project from the start. I sat with the director Tarun Mansukhani and Karan and we discussed the idea. But on the day we were to shoot, I was down with a viral fever. I'd have loved to work with Tarun. He's a wonderful boy. Hopefully, we'll be doing the 'Dostana' sequel shortly," he said

Look what a strike does for you. It makes a sixty day dry spell and then when it calls it off, within four hours of notice; there are hundreds of media personnel present to attend the exclusive press conference of Kambakkht Ishq at Taj Lands End in Bandra. It wasn't the media alone who were given a short notice. Akshay Kumar had to fly down from Karjat in an hour's notice and Kareena had to rush from Mehboob Studios to attend the grand event. "Aap log kaafi bor nahin ho gaye the... koi film release nahin ho rahi thi. Kuch masala kisi ko nahi mil raha tha..." said the ever humorous Akshay Kumar by standing up graciously as he attends the media. Kareena Kapoor too joined in and gave a short speech. A glimpse of the film's trailer and a song was screened for the media and a surprise cake cutting ceremony was held to mark the release date of the film - July 10. Then comes the stampede. Journalists, photographers and the camera crew rush to the near by room where the two sexes - Viraj (Akshay) and Simrita (Kareena) are ready to battle it out with some absurd, strange, mad and some decent questions thrown to them. As Akshay Kumar aptly said, "The battle of the plexes are over and the battle of the sexes has begun". Time for some reaction to reactions.

Akshay Kumar:

The strike is over and Kambakkht Ishq has finally found a release date. How happy are you?

I am very happy about it and who wouldn't be happy? I am continuously working and three to four films of mine are already done and dusted. Yes, I was upset and angry that there was not a single film being released since two months. It's like making a product and there is no buyer. I got to know of the strike at 3 am. I have come down all the way from Karjat and going to go back with a big smile on my face.

Who is Viraj Shergill in the film?

You should know this by now as you've even got a press kit but to answer your question, Viraj is a stuntman in Hollywood. I got an opportunity to do stunts with 'Superman' and 'Rambo' (laughs). It's a battle of sexes but the inside news is that the female sex wins.

This is going to be your biggest release as far as the number of prints are concerned. How excited are you?

Well, I don't know about that but I don't know how you know about it.

Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Apparently, it's going to have an English release too considering that it's got Sylvester Stallone in it.

I actually don't know much about it because they have signed me as an actor and not as an exhibitor and a distributor. But I'll surely find out and let you know about it and if it is something like what you've informed me, then I'm very happy because we'll get an international audience. Sajid was aiming for something like this.

Brief about Sabbir Khan the new director.

I've always enjoyed working with new directors. In fact, I've always given hits with new directors. Be it Sajid Khan, Vipul Shah, Guddu Dhanoa, Naresh Malhotra, etc. I always see a greed in a new director because they are very greedy about work, they want to prove it and they bring new ideas on the table. That's what has inspired me about Sabbir. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

How technically different is Kambakkht Ishq compared to all the other Nadiadwala films you've worked in?

From Judwaa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Heyy Babby, etc, Sajid has always maintained an upward graph. His climb is slow but sure. There is always something new in terms of technicalities in all his films. This is going to be his biggest film.

How different are stunts in Hollywood compared to that of Bollywood?

The West believes a lot in safety. I had to sign a lot of paper work. They maintain the health and safety issue a lot out there which is good. Here it's like, "Chal bhai ab upar se kood. Sab kuch theek hai, tu sirf kood. Boxes bhi theek hai. Kood ja." I'm from the school of Bollywood and when I go there I learn a lot in terms of safety issues surrounding the stunts. Our school is tough, no doubt about it. Out here we sometimes even fall off the building with no boxes down there. When the West hear about our bizarre stunt stories, they are in for a shock.

Is the USP of the film the stunts you've performed?

The film is not about stunts. I'm just playing a stuntman. Mere stunt pe koi katha nahin likhi unhone. Stunt is just my profession in the film.

Why do you think this film will work?

I don't know why this film will work. But I haven't played this kind of a role in any of my films, it's one of my best romantic films. I've been doing a lot of comedy and action. Kambakkht Ishq is very good for a change.

Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor This is the seventh time you're working with Kareena Kapoor. How was the experience?

Well, unke parivaar ka maine thhekaa le rakha hain. I've done fourteen films with Karisma and seven with Kareena. Ab dekhte hain...unke bachhe honge toh unke saath bhi kar lenge.

In terms of fitness, you were pitted against a sixty plus year old man who is physically fit. What did you learn from Sylvester in regards to fitness?

Well, that man had lots and lots of stories to tell. I was very surprised to know some of his stories. We shared a lot of stories in Thailand as he has shot some of the Rambo movies in Thailand and I too come from Thailand. I've stayed there for seven years. The way he works is amazing. Sylvester doesn't just remember his dialogues but he knows all the other dialogues of the people around him. It's a good trait and something which we in Bollywood should learn.

What is the style statement of your shoes?

What has that got to do with the film?

There is a dialogue in the film where you say 'Women are only good for one thing'. Isn't that an insult to women?

Motherhood you mean? Yes, I say that but it's just the character I play in the film who is a male chauvinist.

You're looking dapper day by day. What's the reason?

I eat Chyavanprash everyday. You should also try it.

Kareena Kapoor:

This is the seventh time you're working with Akshay and your chemistry with him is working out fine. What say?

I love to work with Akshay Kumar because I've known him since I was in school. I met him first on the sets of Deedar with Karisma. He is one of India's biggest superstars. His struggle along with Karisma's has gone hand in hand. It feels like he is a part of a family.

Your best friend Amrita Arora is also there in Kambakkht Ishq.

It's been great. I've worked with her in Golmaal Returns and I'm hoping that this film too does well like Golmaal Returns.

You look is very different in the film. Tell us something about it.

The stylist of this film is Aki Narula. We've shopped from Milan and Rome for the costumes of Kambakkht Ishq. You will not find such kind of dresses in a normal Hindi film. We've gone to a very understated and a classic look. I've got lots of messages from people about my look and it feels nice.

How different is Simrita from Kareena Kapoor?

Very different. Simrita in the film is a feminist and I'm not. Simrita is a tough nut to crack and I'm not. Simrita is quite insensitive in the first half which I'm not. But that's the whole fun of it because we play roles different from our real life personality.

You too have got a dialogue saying 'Men want only one thing'.

Don't you think so? Lagta toh aise hi hain na? When you watch the film you'll realise that. You guys watch English film, don't you? Then why make such a big issue out of it?

How was it like shooting in Hollywood with Hollywood stars?

I loved working in Los Angeles. We had a beautiful weather and we got to work with the Hollywood crew. What more can we ask for? I've only done one scene with Denise Richards and two scenes with Sylvester Stallone. They are absolutely normal as normal can be.

Kareena Kapoor How physically challenging and tedious can a role be after you've played size zero in Tashan?

Well, Tashan was tiring because I had to maintain a figure which sent the national economy for a toss. It's nice and different in Tashan. Actually, I challenged myself to that film. Whereas in Kambakkht Ishq it's more like the girl needed to be voluptuous and fuller. She needed to be more fashion conscious. I will don and change myself according to whatever role.

You just mentioned that you want to see Akshay Kumar on the top as he is your favourite hero. What about Saif? Don't you want to see him on top too?

Saif is in the top already.

What was the best compliment you received from Sylvester Stallone?

The fact that I got to sit with him, interact with him and learn something from a hero who is like a father figure is more than what you can ask for. For me, that was my compliment.

We heard that Saif didn't like you wearing a bikini in Tashan and a swim suit in Kambakkht Ishq.

People don't wear jeans and go swimming, do they?

Which is your favourite song from the film?

There is a song with my name 'Bebo' in it and that is my favourite.

Sensuality in 'Kites' not meant to titillate: Rakesh Roshan

New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Actor-turned filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who openly admits that he would love to work with his superstar son Hrithik in every film of his, says their latest offering "Kites" may have made news for its sensuous scenes, but the sensuality is "not meant to titillate".

"The sensuality is not worked into the film to unnecessarily titillate or cater to any specific audiences. 'Kites' is a love story, so the sensuality depicted in the film goes well with it. I'm not catering to any particular audience. I'm making a universal film for a global audience of all age groups," Rakesh Roshan told IANS in interview.

Roshan senior added that rumours of an affair between Hrithik and Mexican actress Barbara Mori during the making of the film did not bother him as he knew they were completely "baseless".

He said Anurag Basu was roped in to direct "Kites", a joint venture between FilmKraft and BIG Pictures, because they shared similar "sensibilities and vision".

The filmmaker has teamed up with his son many times since Hrithik's debut "Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai" in 2000 and admits that he would love to have him in all his films.

"I will always try to have him in all my future projects because he is a complete actor. If you give him any kind of role, he will rise to the challenge and shoulder the responsibility to the T," Roshan said.

Excerpts from the interview:

Q: Your films have been far from the sort of sensuality shown in "Kites". Is it an attempt to appeal to a global audience?

A: The sensuality is not worked into the film to unnecessarily titillate or cater to any specific audiences. 'Kites' is a love story, so the sensuality depicted in the film goes well with it. I'm not catering to any particular audience. I'm making a universal film for a global audience of all age groups.

Q: Considering the controversial kissing scene between Hrithik and Barbara Mori in the film, do you think the censor board is likely to snip any scenes?

A: In my opinion the censor board should not have any objection because the scenes are well integrated into the screenplay with conviction, purity and honesty.

Q: How disturbed were you with rumours that Barbara had caused a rift between Hrithik and Suzanne?

A: Since the rumours were completely baseless they didn't bother me at all.

Q: Does 'Kites' have an underlying message about the universality of the language of love?

A: 'Kites' is not a preachy film, but, yes, it has a message ... that love is a universal language; it crosses all boundaries and is not bound by any constraints.

Q: What was the premise behind selecting Anurag Basu to helm the film?

A: As I have produced and directed many films I could see immediately that 'Kites' as a film needed a very seasoned and dedicated producer because of the sheer scale of the film. It was then that I decided to take on another director and as I have liked Anurag's work in the past and could see that he and I shared similar sensibilities and vision, I signed him for 'Kites'.

Q: Most of your projects after "Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai" have had Hrithik. Do you think your son is your lucky mascot and vice versa?

A: My earlier films made without Hrithik were also big hits. I'm glad that since Hrithik has joined me, we have continued with the FilmKraft tradition of delivering well-made hit films.

Q: Do you feel your films would no longer be complete without Hrithik? Would you have him in every future project of yours?

A: Yes for sure. I will always try to have him in all my future projects because he is a complete actor. If you give him any kind of role, he will rise to the challenge and shoulder the responsibility to the T.

Q: Your next project is "Krrish 2" - have you decided the lead opposite Hrithik?

A: 'Kites' needed single-minded dedication from me as a producer; so I can start thinking of my other projects only after the release of 'Kites'.

Production houses announce release dates of major films

New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) Post the extended dry spell at the box office owing to the stand-off between Bollywood producers and multiplex owners over revenue sharing, production houses have announced, beginning June 12, the release dates of some of the most awaited films slated hit the screens in the coming months.

The row between producers and multiplex owners over revenue sharing began in February. As a result, producers and distributors decided not to push any new releases in multiplexes after April 4.

Now that the strike is over, Hindi movie buffs will have quite a few reasons to cheer since there will be an array of big budget Bollywood films on offer - from Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminey" and Yash Raj Films' "New York" to Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambhakkht Ishq" and Saif Ali Khan's "Love Aaj Kal".

The first film to hit multiplexes June 12 post the strike will be Vashu Bhagnani's "Kal Kissne Dekha" that will see his son, Jackky Bhagnani, and model Vaishali Desai making their debut.

The next in line is director Kabir Khan's "New York", a romantic thriller based on international terrorism. It is a contemporary story of three friends - John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh - and how their lives are turned upside down in New York. The film, produced by Aditya Chopra will release June 26.

Not far behind is Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambakkht Ishq", a $20 million film co-produced by Sunil A. Lulla slated for July 10 release. The much-awaited caper will see Akshay Kumar playing a stuntman in Hollywood with Kareena Kapoor as his lady love. The highlight of the film is the presence of Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.

After an action-packed film like "Kambakkht Ishq", audiences will get to see Saif Ali Khan's debut as a producer with "Love Aaj Kal", which is being helmed by "Jab We Met" director Imtiaz Ali. Saif has teamed up with Deepika Padukone in his home production which is set to release July 31. The film was originally slated to release in the first week of June.

Finally, a larger than life modern day adaptation of the evergreen Arabian Night's tale "Aladin" starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh will hit the screens August 14. "Aladin" is produced by Eros International and Boundscript and directed by Sujoy Ghosh.

Other films that were due to release in May and June but were pushed back due to the strike are "Luck" starring southern superstar Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan opposite Imraan Khan; Subhash Ghai's "Paying Guest"; Bipasha Basu-starrer "Pankh"; director Satish Kaushik's "Tere Sang" and "Phirr", among others. The release dates of these have not been disclosed as yet.

Bollywood Movies to watch out for in 2009

We're done with 2008.

It's been a middling year, and here's a list of big-screen spectacular releases to look forward to next year. Things can only get better.

Chandni Chowk To China

Akshay Kumar strikes again. The Kung Fu Hustle style trailer is the the funnest looking in a long time, and Nikhil Advani's far too polished a director to let his scripts get completely asinine. Not that it matters, when its a masala film promising the spectacular and Kumar -- the man who doesn't seem capable to planting a mainstream foot wrong -- is in the centre of things.

3 Idiots

Ace director Rajkumar Hirani finally moves outside of his fabulous Munna and Circuit characters to take on the Indian education system.

The director has confirmed that this film is an original script, and not based on Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone (a good piece of news to all of those people who sat through the execrable Hello). Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi make for an interesting cast, but we're all just waiting to see Hirani bat again.

Delhi-6

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra became one of the most respected directors in the industry with his apathy-shattering Rang De Basanti a couple of years ago, and we've had to wait three years to see what he does next.

This one is a take on a seamy, colourful, mad part of Delhi called Delhi-6, and stars Abhishek Bachchan opposite Sonam Kapoor. We're expecting texture and metaphor, and the current trailer has our curiosity piqued. Bring it on.

My Name Is Khan

Karan Johar seems to completely have dropped the K, and the subject matter for his next Shah Rukh Khan starrer is intriguing, to say the least: Khan plays a man targetted at an airport because of his last name and his religion, and that discrimination gives rise to many a question.

Then again, the film's been written by Shibani Bhatija, who wrote Fanaa and Kidnap, so maybe we shouldn't go in expecting answers.

Kaminay

Vishal Bhardwaj leaves Shakespeare out of the mix this time with this magnificently named project, starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Remember, this is the man who showed us just how capable Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor were, so it's wise to prepare for fireworks.

The film's story is still closely guarded, but all we know is that Taare Zameen Par writer Amole Gupte plays the villain in the film. Whatever, man. We're sold on Bhardwaj and that fantastic title.

Kambakkht Ishq

Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor star in this massive budget film about an Indian stuntman who becomes a sensation across Hollywood. The film features several prominent Hollywood players, including Sylvester Stallone, Carmen Electra, Bondgirl Denise Richards and Superman star Brandon Routh.

It's quite a coup by Bollywood standards, and one hopes for an entertaining evening of big-screen proportions

Imtiaz Ali's next film

After making Socha Na Tha and Jab We Met on a decidedly comedic note, director Imtiaz Ali has chosen to tread the relatively unpopulated romantic-drama waters for his next film, one starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

The film is currently jetting around the world and shooting everywhere, and we're just curious to see what Imtiaz does next.

Alladin

Sujoy Ghosh's film has been in production for the longest time. Ritesh Deshmukh stars as Alladin while Amitabh Bachchan takes on the role of the genie in this rather zany take on the original.

The film is a special effects spectacular and by now, we just want to see what in the world has taken this long to make.

Wake Up Sid

Director Ayaan Mukherji makes his debut with this film that promises to be interesting simply because of its unconventional pairing.

Ranbir Kapoor, pinup boy-to-be and current heart-throb of the masses, cast opposite indie queen Konkona Sensharma? We're waiting to see how these two very different genre-representatives get along, and the title sounds fun too.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

Katrina Kaif stars opposite Ranbir Kapoor in this film by Raj Kumar Santoshi. That's right, the socially aware blockbuster-maker is back with a film that sounds pretty darned unusual.

The casting is a bit of a coup, the kind of casting that leaves these kids out to fend for themselves without being able to fall back on a massive banner or Akshay Kumar. Salman Khan, however, does make an appearance.
